Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
About AD/HD Coaching

Should a AD/HD coach be certified?

Currently, AD/HD Coaches are not certified specifically. Most coaches go through training programs to receive their certification through a "Life or Personal Coaching" program. AD/HD Coaches are working closely with the International Coaching Federation to bring AD/HD Coaching to the forefront and formal recognition. A number of AD/HD programs are provided to coaches by schools and national organizations (CHADD and ADDA) which provide wonderful training. Most AD/HD Coaches train throughout the year to stay on top of the latest techniques.

How do you keep your skills up-to-date?

Coach Lisa is a Member of the Institute Development and Core Competencies committees are establishing the mission of Institute for the Advancement of AD/HD Coaching (IAAC). The mission of the IAAC is to advance the field of AD/HD coaching through the development and delivery of credentialing and certification for AD/HD coaches worldwide, in pursuit of excellence in our profession.

Can a family member or friend coach me?

Once a client takes the necessary steps to come to coaching, it may be their first realization of accepting the diagnosis of AD/HD. It may be a time of personal "self-discovery" that they may not feel comfortable sharing with loved ones. Some of the very issues that they want to address may involve their loved ones or friends that want to coach the individual.

An AD/HD Coach can be a "safe" and non-judgmental person in the client's life. They do not come into the coaching with an agenda for the client. The Coach is in a position to offer 100% support to the client and can provide advice if need be, but it's the client that has control of the sessions. A family member or friend may have an unconscious or subconscious desire that can influence and interfere with effective coaching. The coach is a neutral support system.
